About

Hello and welcome! I’m Jamie, and as much as I love to write, I loathe writing my bio…

…I think it’s because we’ve become socially attuned to look for titles and credentials that favor our personal confirmation biases, which in turn, could inadvertently harm the need for diverse perspectives.

And that, in a nutshell, explains who I am. I’m a very multi-dimensional person whose main strengths are in my ability to think critically, ask questions, and communicate about complex problems in productive ways.

I have a Master’s Degree in Education, but I left classroom teaching after just four years when I realized the education system was broken; I haven’t returned because I don’t want to compromise my ability to talk about that freely.

But, leaving behind what I formally studied for has allowed me to gain valuable life experiences that have helped form my unique perspectives, such as:

  • I’ve worked in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom, and learned the value of freedom — fairytale or otherwise.
  • I’ve taught yoga at a raw foods resort in Phuket, Thailand, and learned just how many people are looking to spiritually and physically heal — and what lengths they’ll go to to achieve that.
  • I’ve worked in a management position in a nuclear waste processing facility, and learned about the power of standing up for yourself — even if it has negative reprecussions.
  • For the last five years, I’ve worked as a self-taught, self-employed freelance digital marketer, where I’ve learned that it’s never to late to reinvent yourself.

And maybe that best describes me: I am someone who has many interests, but above all else, I am not afraid to learn something new.

I am brave enough to recreate myself as needed and question what I think I know in order to grow.

My blog reflects that. Welcome.
